KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has announced a relaxation of rules and standard operating procedure (SOP) covering mosques, surau, and houses of worship of other religions from Friday (Feb 12).
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 10) that Friday prayers and daily solat prayers at mosques and surau statewide would now be allowed, with SOP in place.
"The state government has agreed to allow solat prayers with no more than 15 people at a time, and Friday prayers with not more than 45 people at one session, as well as religious activities in mosques and surau statewide.
"We also agreed to allow religious activities at other prayer houses with limited capacity of one-third of the premises' capacity but not more than 45 people at a time.
"This will be effective Friday," he said in the statement on daily Covid-19 developments in Sabah.
On Wednesday, the state recorded 132 new cases, bringing its cumulative numbers to 50,855.
Four fatalities were reported: two in Tawau district and one each in Putatan and Sandakan.
To date, 48,535 recoveries have been recorded. - Star
