MCMC warns courier company in viral video to improve parcel handling

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a warning to the courier company which has gone viral following the violent handling of customer parcels by its employees.

In a statement today, the commission said the warning was issued for the company to improve its parcel handling procedures.

It said the commission viewed the incident seriously and had instructed the company to provide an explanation of what happened.

“All courier companies licensed under the Postal Services Act 2012 must abide by the conditions and rules set especially in protecting the rights of consumers.

“Licence holders could be fined with a sum of not more than RM300,000 or jailed for a term not exceeding three years, or both if they are found to have violated any subsidiary legislation under the Postal Services Act 2012,” it said.

MCMC also urged consumers to understand and be aware of their rights before choosing a courier company and contact the service provider for any complaints and claims of damaged or missing items during the delivery process.

Consumers can also lodge their complaints with the MCMC complaints portal.
