MELAKA: Uninvited guests are being a nuisance to Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and his family at Seri Bendahara, his official residence in Ayer Keroh here.
A herd of wild pigs has been foraging in the vast green lung surrounding Seri Bendahara, and an operation has been planned to get rid of them.
State Agriculture, Agro-based, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee chairman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee will lead the operation on Monday night (Feb 15).
When contacted, Norhizam said rangers from the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will comb the compound of Seri Bendahara to cull the animals.
"The population of wild boar in the state is still high despite efforts to control the species," he said on Monday.
Norhizam noted that 177 wild pigs have been culled this year up to Feb 8, while 1,240 were culled throughout 2020. - Star
