1MDB TRIAL | The Kuala Lumpur High Court directed former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman to undergo a swab test for Covid-19.
Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah issued this directive after the 10th prosecution witness was unable to attend today’s RM2.28 billion 1MDB corruption trial of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Hazem (above) was not seen at the witness stand today as Najib looked on from the dock.
At the start of proceedings this morning, deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam informed the court that Hazem was not present today because the witness was exhibiting symptoms of fever.
“Please inform him (Hazem) to go for a swab test. And please use all of your resources at your disposal to ensure another witness is present,” Sequerah informed the prosecution.
Mustaffa then informed the court that the next witness is in her 70s and that they needed time to ensure the witness arrived safely at court.
Sequerah then adjourned proceedings for the morning and directed for the trial to resume with the next witness at 1pm.
When speaking to the media later today, Mustaffa confirmed what transpired in court this morning.
He also added that the next witness to testify later today is former deputy chief secretary to the cabinet Mazidah Abdul Majid.
“The next witness to testify is Mazidah Abdul Majid,” Mustaffa said regarding the 11th prosecution witness set to testify when proceedings resume around 1pm this afternoon.
Mazidah previously testified for the prosecution in Najib’s separate corruption trial involving RM42 million of funds from SRC International.
For the present matter before Sequerah, Najib is on trial for four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion of 1MDB's funds. - Mkini
