PMO threatens legal action against Umno leader over recalcitrant PM claim

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's office is threatening legal action against Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi.

This is after Puad (above) claimed that Muhyiddin and his entourage refused to go under quarantine after returning from Indonesia, hence the quarantine period for ministers being reduced to three days.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO), in a statement, denied the allegation which it said was slander and aimed at tarnishing the prime minister's name.

"Legal action will be taken against him (Puad) if he fails to make a public apology," it said.

The office added that Muhyiddin had been placed under quarantine right after returning from Indonesia last Friday, and that he is still undergoing home quarantine.

Yesterday, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba issued an order to relax quarantine rules for cabinet members, reducing the required quarantine period from 10 days to three.

Adham, a general practitioner by training, defended the decision, saying the three-day quarantine will only apply if ministers strictly follow a "bubble itinerary" during their international travels.

"Each cabinet minister must request approval from the prime minister and the cabinet before travelling abroad. Only a strict bubble itinerary can be allowed for this purpose.

"I will evaluate, and if they fail to follow a bubble working visit itinerary, then we go for 10 days (quarantine). That's clear," he was quoted as saying by CodeBlue.

He added that officers in the minister's delegation who went along for the overseas trip must still quarantine for the full 10 days. - Mkini
