Probe claims of sexual harassment at roadblocks, Rina tells cops

Two women drivers recently alleged that they were sexually harassed in separate incidents at police roadblocks.

PUTRAJAYA: Women, family and community development minister Rina Harun today urged police to investigate allegations of sexual harassment by their personnel on duty at roadblocks.

Rina said she took reports on the alleged incidents seriously, and they should not be taken lightly, especially as they involved enforcement personnel.

She wanted an immediate investigation launched so that drivers were given protection and action taken against those responsible.

“In handling this issue, I really hope that all parties respect each other and to not question the credibility of PDRM that has sacrificed a lot in ensuring public order and security in the country,” she said in a statement.

“One bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch.”

Bukit Aman was reported to have suspended two policemen alleged to have sexually harassed women drivers at roadblocks in separate incidents recently. The women had uploaded the alleged incidents on their social media accounts.

Rina reiterated that her ministry was committed to formulating a law on sexual harassment to be tabled in Parliament.

She called on the people, especially women, to come forward and lodge a report if they were victims of sexual harassment through Talian Kasih at 15999 or Whatsapp to 019-26 15999. - FMT
