The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has provided all MPs with a RM20,000 allocation each specifically for outreach purposes to promote the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP).
This special fund also covers opposition MPs.
"We hope all MPs will do their part to encourage their constituents to register for vaccination," a government spokesperson told Malaysiakini.
As of yesterday, only 44.7 percent of the targeted 24,273,288 individuals in the country have registered to be part of the programme.
Over the past 14 days, the number of people registered for vaccination has grown by eight percent, averaging 54,000 a day.
So far, only 6.5 percent of the targeted figure have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. Most of the vaccines available under Malaysia's portfolio require two doses.
Some regions, such as Sabah, are suffering from low registration rates while there have been a high number of no-shows in Kelantan. - Mkini
