Some Petronas staff members from Labuan have received Covid-19 vaccines under phase one of the National Immunisation Programme (NIP).
The oil and gas employees were considered industrial frontliners and the vaccination was fast-tracked as a Covid-19 cluster emerged on the island.
“Petronas confirms that a number of its personnel in Labuan have been vaccinated as part of the Health Ministry’s prescribed measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 transmission on the island.
“This vaccination was carried out under the NIP following the emergence of an industrial cluster in Labuan,” Petronas said in a statement.
“Petronas continues to support the government’s efforts to bring the pandemic under control and applauds the hard work and sacrifices of our medical frontliners,” it added.
Last week, the Pahang State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that hospitality workers in Genting Highlands had been given vaccines, leading to questions about whether government-declared priority lists were being adhered to.
Phase 1 involved 500,000 medical and non-medical frontline personnel and commenced in March.
Phase 2 will involve people aged 60 and above as well as those suffering morbidities often seen in Covid-19 deaths, which began on April 19.
A parallel vaccination scheme for those wanting to take the AstraZeneca shots also began last week. - Mkini
