PARLIAMENT | The 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP) has been passed in the Dewan Rakyat today with a voice vote.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had tabled the 12MP in Parliament on Sept 27, announcing that the government will allocate RM400 billion for existing and new development projects.
Some of the main objectives are a targeted growth for the gross domestic product (GDP) of between 4.5 and 5.5 percent a year in the five-year period of the 12MP, an average household income of RM10,000 a month by 2025, a narrowed gap between the GDPs of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Ismail Sabri had said that the 12MP is expected to make Malaysia a high-income and high-tech country by 2025.
The MPs’ debate and the ministers’ winding-up speeches on the 12MP took place over the course of seven days, with today being the last day.
Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun had called for a voice vote after the last winding-up speech from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamed at around 5.50pm.
More voices agreed with the motion than those who disagreed.
As such, the 12MP was passed with little fanfare. - Mkini
