BN has pledged to amend the Malacca state constitution to allow for the appointment of five state assemblypersons if the coalition wins two-thirds of the 28-seat state legislature in the upcoming polls.
BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malacca voters are convinced that only the coalition would be able to return stability to the state and to Malaysia as a whole.
“With agreement from Malacca BN and federal BN, if we win more than two-thirds of seats, Insya Allah we will amend the state constitution.
“This is to propose the appointment of five more state assemblypersons,” he said at the launch of BN’s Malacca polls machinery at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, tonight.
The Election Commission has set Nov 8 for nomination and polling will be on Nov 20.
The Malacca state polls were triggered after four state representatives withdrew their support for the government under outgoing chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
In his speech, Zahid reminded BN’s machinery to not engage in attacks against their opponents, but rather focus more on what they could offer the people.
“We will not cooperate with Bersatu in the Malacca polls. This is not the president’s voice, but it is the voice of the grassroots.
“We do not need to attack our rivals… we just tell them what is good about us. Tell them what is good about us because they are not our enemies, they are our opponents,” he said.
Zahid added that MCA and MIC will not be sidelined as BN component members, indicating there will be seats allocated for both parties.
MIC president S Vigneswaran and MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon were among BN component party leaders present for the launch tonight, along with Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurup. - Mkini
