Disciplinary action on cops who partied in station, no criminal charges

The four policemen caught partying in a police station in Bangi three months ago are facing disciplinary actions, but there will be no criminal charges pressed against them.

They include the sub-inspector in charge of the Bangi police station, who initially tested positive for marijuana when the station was raided by a team from the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.

“There are no criminal charges. But they are getting disciplinary action, an investigation is being conducted by Bukit Aman,” Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed said when contacted for an update on the case.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (ISCD) director Azri Ahmad later told Malaysiakini that the decision to not press criminal charges against the suspects was made by the deputy public prosecutor.

According to him, a second urine test on the sub-inspector had returned negative.

“I was informed that a second urine test conducted for confirmation by the pathologist had found (the officer) negative for drug abuse.

“They have also been issued compounds for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures,” Azri told Malaysiakini.

The police commissioner said the four personnel are still subjected to an ongoing disciplinary investigation where they are facing charges under the Public Officers Codes of Conduct (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.

“All of them have been ordered to submit a representation letter to all the charges concerning their wrongdoings before a further decision is made on them,” Azri added.

It was reported that on July 20, a team from Bukit Aman raided the police station and arrested four police personnel and four women who were allegedly partying on the premises.

According to a report by Berita Harian, the party took place in a “special room” on the second floor, where a disco ball light was fitted.

The daily claimed that during the 6pm raid, the eight were found to be dancing and crooning to karaoke.

The team also seized a liquor bottle, five bottles of ketum, lighting and audio equipment as well as lewd photographs depicting one of the police officers with a woman who was among those detained. - Mkini
