Covid-19 (Oct 15): 7,420 cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 7,420 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative case count to 2,377,033.

They were surpassed by a total of 11,413 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 700
  • Intubated: 364

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 11.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 5.5 percent from a week ago.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 14), where 8,084 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Selangor (1,630)
Sarawak (1,061)
Kelantan (896)
Johor (804)
Sabah (691)
Penang (587)
Terengganu (452)
Kedah (416)
Perak (409)
Kuala Lumpur (304)
Pahang (289)
Malacca (255)
Negeri Sembilan (184)
Perlis (82)
Putrajaya (24)
Labuan (0)

As of yesterday, the R-naught for Malaysia has stood at 0.88 for four consecutive days. A R-naught of less than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 is decelerating.

The only states with an R-naught of more than 1.00 are Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya.

Clusters

To date, 721 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 13 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 17.5 percent from the 874 active clusters a week ago.

The 13 new clusters today comprised nine workplace clusters (69.2 percent), three community clusters (23.1 percent) and one cluster involving an educational facility that is not under the Education Ministry's jurisdiction (7.7 percent).
