The government should not overlook medical frontliners even though the latest peak of the Covid-19 pandemic has passed, Sarawak PKR Youth deputy chief Chiew Choon Man said.
He said this in reference to complaints that medical frontliners at Sarikei Hospital in the state are burnt out.
While the pandemic situation has been improving nationally, Sarawak is the only state where hospital admission among Covid-19 patients has been on the rise.
"Even though the country has passed the peak of the crisis, it is of utmost importance that we always remember and appreciate the contributions of our frontliners who have sacrificed for our safety.
"Therefore, Sarawak PKR Youth urges the government, particularly the Health Ministry, to give immediate attention to the problems raised by medical officers, not only at Sarikei Hospital but also at hospitals across the country," Chiew said.
He also urged the Sarawak government to fulfil its promise to provide a special monthly allowance for medical frontliners battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sources at Sarikei Hospital said they have been denied leave since last year and were clocking extra hours every week as manpower has been spread thin due to the pandemic.
Some had said that they wished they were infected with Covid-19 so that they could get some rest. - Mkini
