PARLIAMENT | The government will suggest for civil servants and teachers to undergo rapid test kit (RTK) tests regularly at their workplaces, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Special Functions Abdul Latiff Ahmad.
He said the matter will be brought up during the next National Security Council (NSC) meeting.
Abdul Latiff (above) said this in response to a supplementary question by Shahruddin Salleh (Pejuang-Sri Gading), who asked if the government planned to implement RTK testing on civil servants and teachers every Monday and Wednesday similar to MPs during Parliament sittings, as there were about two percent of the public that remain unvaccinated.
“Good suggestion. We can bring up and discuss (the matter) during the NSC pandemic meeting chaired by the prime minister,” he said during Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Previously, when asked whether the government would take legal action against civil servants who refused to be vaccinated, Abdul Latiff said it required certain conditions and had to be done prudently.
He said that as of now, 98.18 percent of civil servants are fully vaccinated.
"This means that only 1.92 percent of the 1.6 million civil servants have not been vaccinated.
"Therefore, Covid-19 vaccination is still ongoing and is done voluntarily, including by civil servants.
"However, if the government wants to make it mandatory or ensure that (all) 1.6 million is injected, there needs to be some conditions, rules and engagement so that this can be done prudently," he said. - Mkini
