KOTA KINABALU: Warisan has submitted a pre-signed resignation letter by Sindumin assemblyman Yusof Yacob to the state assembly speaker in the hope of getting the seat vacated.

Yusof, the former Warisan information chief, had quit the party last week.

The party used a similar letter to push Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir to vacate his seat when he left Warisan to support Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) back in February. However, it was rejected by speaker Kadzim M Yahya.

Warisan had said then that Hassan made a pledge, including to vacate his seat if he were to switch parties, and signed a document of allegiance to Warisan in front of the party’s lawyers before the state election in September last year.

It is understood that Warisan lawyers had sent a similar letter, this time purportedly signed by Yusof, to Kadzim’s office earlier today.

When contacted, Kadzim said his office had received the letter but he had also received a sworn affidavit from Yusof, who left Warisan to become an independent rep supporting GRS on Oct 8.

The affidavit seeks to withdraw all his previous oaths or pre-signed pledges to Warisan prior to the Sabah election.

“Give me some time to examine the letters with my deputies and state assembly secretary before I decide on the matter,” he said.

Besides the pre-signed resignation letters, Warisan had also taken videos of their candidates for the state election taking an oath of loyalty to the party and pledging to resign if they switched support to another political party.

Warisan has since filed a civil lawsuit against Hassan to try and force him to vacate his seat. The case is still in the court.

Kadzim had said he rejected the pre-signed letter between Hassan and Warisan as it was “ineffective” under the current law, adding Hassan would remain as the Sebatik rep. - FMT
