Pandora Papers: Cops working with Bank Negara on two reports

The police said they have received four police reports on alleged illegal capital flight in relation to the Pandora Papers exposé.

Bukit Aman CID director Abd Jalil Hassan said of the four reports, one investigation paper has been opened and referred to Bank Negara on Oct 14.

Another investigation paper will be referred to Bank Negara on Oct 18 for further investigation.

He did not detail what exactly the police were looking into.

Meanwhile, two police reports were classified as no further action as they concern the handover of memorandums urging investigations into the Pandora Papers.

The Pandora Papers refer to a trove of documents leaked to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). Malaysiakini is a partner of the consortium.

The data dump was from firms that helped clients set up offshore trusts and entities in tax havens.

Malaysians named in the leak include Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, deputy finance minister Yamani Hafez Musa, Bagan Datuk MP and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Selayang MP William Leong, and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

All individuals said their dealings with offshore entities, including owning or sitting on the boards of such firms, were legitimate and due taxes had been paid for any assets and earnings related to the offshore companies. - Mkini
