The government is trialling a new protocol whereby certain fully vaccinated international travellers will not need to quarantine if they test negative for Covid-19.
Dubbed “Test and Release” (T&R), it will be expanded to business travellers next.
For now, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the “pilot programme” is only available for travellers who are either heads of state, ministers, deputy ministers, chief ministers, state government executive councillors, MPs or government officials.
The quarantine exemption is limited to “official visits” with a “strict and limited itinerary”.
It is also limited to fully vaccinated travellers arriving from “low risk” countries.
The prime minister did not specify which countries these were.
To apply for T&R, Ismail Sabri said travellers must apply through the National Security Council and the Health Ministry “within the stipulated time frame along with supporting documents”.
They must take an RT-PCR test three days before departure to Malaysia, plus take another such test on arrival.
“This pilot programme will be in effect from Oct 18 and will be expanded to business travellers in the near future,” Ismail Sabri said. - Mkini
