KOTA KINABALU: Several hours of heavy rain that started from 1am triggered yet another round of flash floods in a number of Sabah districts today.
Among the areas inundated by flood waters were Kolombong, Inanam, Lido market and Menggatal in the state capital as well as Pavilion Bundusan in Penampang.
Traffic congestion was also reported after several main roads were affected.
According to the Civil Defence Force, the downpour had overwhelmed the districts’ drainage system, causing flooding in several areas.
A spokesman said the water level at Sungai Moyog was at 8.82m at 10am, which had breached the warning level of 8.5m and not too far away from the danger level of 9m.
“Five villages and two housing areas have been flooded,” the spokesman said.
Among the Penampang villages affected were Kampung Kobusak, Kampung Sugud, Kampung Kibabaig, Kampung Mogonibung and Kampung Kohizan.
The housing areas affected were Millineum Height Bundusan and Taman Landmark.
No one has been evacuated but authorities are monitoring the situation.
“Flooding again,” said DAP senator Adrian Lasimbang in his Facebook page where he also posted several aerial photos of the floods he took using a drone.
Meanwhile, strong winds caused a row of five wooden shops to collapse in Kimanis in the southwestern Papar district.
A fire and rescue department spokesman said it received a call at 6.50am and sent a team to the area.
No one is reported to be hurt from the incident, he said. - FMT
