KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan’s proposed memorandum of understanding with the state government will be meaningless without Warisan’s participation, says SAPP president Yong Teck Lee.
Yong said Warisan and not Sabah PH, is the main opposition party in the state.
SAPP is a component of Perikatan Nasional which in turn is part of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
“SAPP is of the view that any agreement between GRS and opposition parties in Sabah is meaningless without Warisan, a local party that is not part of PH.
“This is because the opposition like PKR and DAP are from the peninsula and its Sabahan leaders have no say,” said Yong in a statement.
He said realistically, any cooperation between the state government and the opposition must include Warisan and whether the party wanted to be part of any cooperation was a different matter.
It was previously reported that Sabah PH leaders would meet to discuss signing an MoU with the state government.
Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau said PH had initiated this plan following the MoU signed at the federal level in September.
He said PH leaders, including DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, had met Warisan president Shafie Apdal, as a matter of courtesy to the Sabah opposition leader, to see if his party was interested in being part of the MoU, which it had rejected at the federal level. -FMT
