Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the virus was already in the community and it was very important for everyone to strictly adhere to the SOP.

"Sabah recorded 820 new infections today, 30 cases more than yesterday.

"The up and down trend in the state is expected to continue for some time. Since the virus is already in the community, sporadic infections will easily occur, and the daily trend is also greatly influenced by the people's attitude and observance of SOPs," he said in his daily statement.

Masidi added that the number of cases through symptomatic screening which is synonymous with sporadic cases was high at 317 cases or 38.66 per cent of the caseload.

"This is a sign that the virus is becoming more entrenched within the community, and it is very important for all residents to always adhere to the SOP," he said, adding that close contact screenings continued to be the highest contributor of daily Covid-19 cases in Sabah with 443 infections or 54.02 per cent.

Despite the slight increase, Masidi said 93.78 per cent of the cases today comprised Category 1 and 2 patients which usually only involved home surveillance or isolation at quarantine centres.

"There are only four cases under Category 3, two under Category 4 and none under Category 5," Masidi said.

Sabah also registered 15 fatalities – three in Sandakan and Tawau, two in Lahad Datu, and one each in Beluran, Nabawan, Keningau, Kinabatangan, Kunak, Semporna and Tuaran.

As of yesterday, 68 per cent of Sabah's adult population were fully vaccinated. - NST
