Pengkalan Batu assemblyperson Norhizam Hassan Baktee said DAP has no right to stop him from contesting under the Pakatan Harapan banner in the upcoming Malacca state election as he is no longer a member.
“Did I join DAP? Who is DAP to stop me? I did not say I am returning to DAP.
“If I were to join PKR, what does it have to do with (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng? If I want to join Amanah, what does it have to do with Lim? If I join Pejuang, what does it have to do with Lim?
“He is from DAP, he should just take care of DAP people… I am no longer a DAP member. You know as well, the rakyat have rejected this Chinese party,” Norhizam said, as reported by Free Malaysia Today.
He was responding to Lim’s remarks that DAP will protest against Norhizam contesting in the state election under the Harapan banner.
Norhizam also revealed that he has received offers to cooperate with various parties for the upcoming Malacca snap polls in November, but he is still keeping his options open.
“Parties are just a platform, during election we do have to have a party to contest but after that, we move on our own ticket,” he said.
'I have principles'
Speaking about his failed coup with three other Malaccan reps, Norhizam stressed that he will never tolerate “wickedness” and “falsehoods”.
“I fight to defend from ignorance, falsehoods and wickedness happening in front of my eyes. I reject, I do not want, I have principles. If it is wrong, it is wrong. If it is right, we will say it is right.
“My principles are that I want to help the people of Malacca, I am (willing) to sacrifice dignity, the future, politics, positions, my salary and my car, when I can actually just close my eyes and sit quietly. We are principled,” he said.
However, Norhizam did not elaborate on what he meant by wickedness and falsehood.
When asked if he is open to cooperating with Umno in the upcoming snap polls, he said he would never work with that party.
The Malacca state legislative assembly was dissolved on Oct 4 following an unsuccessful coup attempt led by Norhizam, former chief minister Idris Haron (Umno-Sungai Udang) and Nor Azman Hassan (Umno-Pantai Kundor) and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Bersatu-Telok Mas).
In the 2018 general election, Norhizam, who was a DAP member at the time, had contested and won the Pengkalan Batu seat under the Harapan banner.
Shortly after the Sheraton Move early last year, Norhizam and Effandi were among those who defected and caused the previous Harapan-led Malacca government to collapse.
Earlier today, Lim had said DAP will not accept Norhizam as a candidate for the upcoming Malaccan snap polls.
“DAP outright rejects Pengkalan Batu (Norhizam) as a candidate,” Lim had said, though he did not elaborate why.
This came after a bid by Norhizam and the three other reps to contest in the state election under Harapan’s banner. - Mkini
