Bersatu info chief challenges Rauf to disavow 'greedy' Najib

MALACCA POLLS | Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan has challenged Malacca BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh to disavow BN adviser Najib Abdul Razak over the latter's alleged "greed".

"If Rauf keeps quiet, therefore it is assumed that he and BN support Najib's greed. What guarantees do we have that he will not emulate Najib?

"The people of Malacca can evaluate BN's behaviour. Some of them will never change. I'm confident that the people of Malacca will choose wisely this Saturday," Wan Saiful (above) said in a post on his Facebook page last night.

Last year, Najib was convicted in relation to the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International funds when he was prime minister and finance minister. He is appealing the decision.

He faces two other criminal trials related to the 1MDB saga.

Yesterday, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz told Parliament that the cabinet was mulling a request made by Najib for a piece of government land in Kuala Lumpur.

This was in response to a question by Langkawi MP Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Zafrul did not reveal the value of the property but some of the MPs suggested that it was valued at RM100 million.

Following this, Najib said that he applied for his entitlement to property as a former prime minister under the Members of Parliament (Remuneration) Act 1980.

Najib said his officers submitted an application in 2018 and were offered three properties. He chose one near Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Now that the matter has been dredged up, Najib claimed that it is being highlighted now because of the Malacca election.

"Suddenly, the land is valued at RM100 million. This land is already owned by the government and it is given to me as a choice under the law.

"I didn't ask the government to buy it from me," wrote Najib on Facebook last night. - Mkini
