BN's 'Along' seeks to represent Asahan residents from womb to grave

MALACCA POLLS | Malacca Umno Youth chief Fairul Nizam Roslan is seeking to play the role of the big brother to voters and residents in Asahan where he is contesting as a candidate.

Campaigning while using the Malay nickname 'Along' (eldest sibling) to endear himself to voters, Fairul Nizam said an assemblyperson must represent constituents at all stages of life, even before they are born.

"Assemblypersons are the leaders closest to the people; it's said that elected representatives must look after the people from the womb to the grave," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

The 43-year old said this is why "young" candidates should be promoted, as their age gap between both the elderly and the young is not too far off.

Meanwhile, Fairul Nizam said voters are free to call him 'Along' instead of 'YB' (short for yang berhormat or the honourable) if elected, and that he will be their friend.

"I've been called Along since young. I have four kids and I'm still called Along.

"Asahan residents can call me Along too. Along can be a friend, a son, a big brother, maybe not a little brother, but I can be your companion," he said.

He said among his chief concerns is improving education for the children of Asahan, which he believes will lead to economic stability in families, the state, and the country.

BN previously won the Asahan state seat in 2018 with a slim 275-vote majority and 45.80 percent of the vote in a three-cornered fight against Bersatu and PAS.

Fairul Nizam, who replaced incumbent Abdul Ghafar Atan, will be defending the seat in a six cornered fight against former chief minister Idris Haron (PKR), Gerakan's B Danesh, and three independents. - Mkini
