Hamzah: Leaders, members who left Umno to join Bersatu wanted better platform to help the rakyat

MELAKA: Umno leaders and members who joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia had done so as they wanted to leave a party that was led by problematic individuals.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said those who acted that way were not "political frogs".

Instead, they chose to be part of Bersatu, which is a better platform in efforts to assist the rakyat, he said.

Hamzah, who is also Bersatu secretary-general, said those who left Umno wanted to move away from a party that was plagued by many issues when it was, at one time, led by Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"This had caused people to flee from Umno. It is better to leave all of the ignorant things that the (leaders) had committed and all those problems behind. They (left the party) because they wanted to find a better place where they can help the rakyat," said Hamzah in an interview broadcast live on his Facebook account today.

He was responding to a statement by Najib, who said that votes for PN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Melaka election was akin to voting for political frogs.

Najib is Barisan Nasional advisory board chairman.

When commenting on the widely displayed picture of PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Melaka, Hamzah said it reflected the party's confidence towards the former's leadership.

He said those who questioned the matter were in fact embarrassed by their own party leaders in PH and BN, which had not used any pictures of their chairmen throughout the campaign period.

"They are afraid that people would say they (the chairmen) are problematic individuals who lead these candidates.

"We (PN) are brave to put pictures bearing the words 'Abah sayang Melaka' to show that he (Muhyiddin) will be the one who will lead and advise the PN candidate," said Hamzah. - NST
