High Court finds 18 guilty of homicide, injuring navy cadet

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has found six Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) students guilty of culpable homicide in the case of Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.

Judge Azman Abdullah ruled that the six were guilty under Section 304 of the Penal Code.

The section stipulates that the maximum punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder is either 30 years jail and a fine, or 10 years or a fine or both.

Astro Awani reported that 12 other students were found guilty under Section 330 of the Penal Code of injuring the navy cadet officer.

This section states that those guilty of voluntarily causing hurt to extort a confession or to compel restoration of property can be sentenced to up to seven years in jail and fined.

The court is now in recess and will resume with sentencing next.

These offences were committed in room 04-10 of the UPNM Jebat Hostel on May 21-22, 2017.
