TAMPIN: The department of Islamic development (Jakim) has produced a specific manual for counsellors in implementing spiritual healing programmes for Covid-19 patients who are suffering from mental health and emotional problems.

Deputy religious affairs minister Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said the programme, known as “Klinik Rohani”, would comprise treatment methods using Imam Al-Ghazali’s approach involving emotional and behavioural aspects.

Imam Al-Ghazali was a prominent Persian philosopher and mystic.

Marzuk said the pilot project started today at the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) in Tampin Hospital and would be followed by selected PKRCs according to zones.

“Klinik Rohani is an initiative to provide spiritual guidance to Covid-19 patients who are emotionally affected, especially when hospitalised.

“This project aims to help patients get the best treatment based on religion,” he told a press conference after the launch of the clinic here today.

Commenting further, Marzuk said Jakim had stationed more than 2,000 cadres or assistant officers for Islamic religious affairs at hospitals and district police headquarters (IPD) throughout the country to provide spiritual guidance to Covid-19 patients and other staff.

Meanwhile, he said Jakim also provided spiritual care guidance to Muslim and non-Muslim patients who are undergoing quarantine at home through the MyCare Covid-19 service at 03-8870 7000.

From June 1 to Nov 1, MyCare Covid-19 had received over 3,600 complaints, including from non-Muslims, he said. - FMT
