PETALING JAYA: The enforcement of Covid-19 rules will be strengthened in Kelantan amid the high positivity rate in the state, says health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Speaking at a press conference in Kota Bharu today, the minister noted the lack of adherence to SOPs during his visit to the state.

“Our strategy is to strengthen enforcement of SOPs in Kelantan.

“I see Kelantan is among the states with the highest (number of) compound fines. Maybe enforcement is being done but adherence to SOPs is not very good,” he said.

“There must be an improvement in adherence to SOPs in Kelantan.

“Even during my one-day visit here today, I can see that the level of adherence to rules among Kelantan folks is not high.”

Khairy said the positivity rate for those who had symptoms was also “pretty high” at nearly 40%.

Touching on vaccine procurement for those aged below 12, he said the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) was waiting for additional details from Pfizer.

The government was still in negotiations with the pharmaceutical giant on certain conditions related to the procurement, he said.

Khairy also said the health ministry had no plans to procure the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Indian drugmaker Bharat Biotech, which earlier this week received the green light for emergency use from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Earlier, he announced that 31 health facility development projects in Kelantan had been approved under the first rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

This involved a total cost of RM623 million. - FMT
