Malacca polls: Bernama TV provides slots to opposition candidates

MALACCA POLLS | The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), through Bernama TV, is giving slots to opposition parties to deliver their messages to voters in the Melaka state election.

Pakatan Harapan candidate from PKR for Sungai Rambai seat, Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir, became the first opposition candidate to share her aspirations and struggles for the people through the ‘Ruang Bicara’ programme on Monday.

Today, Harapan candidate for Klebang seat, Gue Teck, appeared on ‘Malaysia Petang Ini’, followed by Harapan candidate for Rim state seat, B Prasanth Kumar on ‘Darah Muda’ programme.

The ‘Ruang Biacara Khas’ programme features, among others, the Harapan candidate for Pantai Kundor Nor Azman Hassan and the candidate for Pengkalan Batu Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent).

Yesterday, Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the government's willingness to consider giving slots to Malacca state election candidates to campaign via government radio and television channels to share their messages.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa was reported as saying that the government was looking into the matter as it understood the difficulty faced by all political parties, especially new candidates, to campaign under the new normal.

A total of 112 candidates are contesting in the Melaka state election comprising 28 each from BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Harapan, five from Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), one from Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (Iman) and 22 independent candidates.

Early voting is on Nov 16 and polling is on Nov 20.
