MySejahtera won't be used to track down gambling Muslims - KJ

 

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government would not use MySejahtera as a tool to conduct moral policing like tracking down Muslims who visit gambling dens.

This comes after opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim suggested the government checks the Covid-19 pandemic contact tracing application to see how many Muslims had been involved in gambling activities.

“We will not be using MySejahtera for the purposes of tracking Muslims going to gaming outlets or for any form of moral policing.

“MySejahtera is strictly to be used for the purposes of pandemic management and public health,” the health minister said, as quoted by English daily The Star today.

It is illegal for Muslims to gamble in Malaysia, and all licensed gaming outlets are prohibited from admitting Muslims into their premises.

However, Anwar, who is the PKR Port Dickson MP, yesterday claimed that “tens of thousands” of Muslims are gambling on slot machines in at least 62 clubs licensed with such facilities.

He claimed that the number of Muslims with such membership had increased during the past one-and-a-half years, but did not provide evidence for his claims. - Mkini
