Only Kelantan, Sarawak left in NRP Phase 3 next week

Five states currently under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan will transition to the next phase from Monday onwards, said Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

This would leave Kelantan and Sarawak as the only states still in Phase 3.

All other states and territories in Malaysia are already in Phase 4 of the reopening plan.

Compared to Phase 3, Phase 4 has fewer restrictions for curtailing the spread of Covid-19, such as by allowing social functions such as wedding receptions to take place albeit with certain precautions still in place.

Hishammuddin said the move was decided by the Covid-19 pandemic special management committee today after considering risk assessments made by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council (NSC).

Standard operating procedures for the states entering Phase 4 will be updated on the NSC’s website.

Meanwhile, the minister announced that fully vaccinated people of all ages will be allowed to enter sports facilities from Monday onwards, compared to the current restrictions that would bar children below 18 from entering.

“Children below 18 years old who are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated are still not allowed to enter stadiums and any sports facility. For now, eating and drinking in stadiums is still not allowed,” he said.

In addition, the committee decided that sailors under the Port Klang Authority’s jurisdiction are allowed to get their vaccinations during their stops at Port Klang, subject to approval by the Health Ministry, the Marine Department, and the Immigration Department.

“The vaccinations should be carried out on board the ships to avoid large movements of sailors to clinics and healthcare facilities,” he said.

He said the port authority has been told to provide details necessary to facilitate the vaccinations, such as the sponsor and the number of sailors involved. - Mkini
