Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has reiterated his call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into 1MDB.
He said such an investigation was needed to, among others, uncover the involvement of former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and her husband Tawfiq Ayman.
Last week the MACC revealed that US$15.4 million (RM65 million) in 1MDB-linked funds had been repatriated from the accounts of Cutting Edge Industries Ltd in Singapore.
This prompted a call by Puad (above) for an RCI to be established.
Cutting Edge Industries, co-owned by Tawfiq and Samuel Goh, was the beneficiary of misappropriated 1MDB funds that were originally received by another company co-owned by Zeti's husband in 2008 and 2009.
The Edge has also alleged that Tawfiq was believed to be one of 1MDB mastermind Low Taek Jho's partners in the Abu Dhabi Malaysia Kuwait Investment Corporation (ADKMIC) when it was founded in 2007.
ADKMIC was used by Low between 2011 and 2013 to launder misappropriated 1MDB funds during the Good Star phase.
Goh, meanwhile, was involved in setting up a fund for the Low-controlled company Aabar Investment PJS Ltd (Aabar BVI) - which would later receive funds from 1MDB under allegedly false pretences.
Zeti, who is a witness in former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's 1MDB trial, previously said allegations against her and her family were false and malicious, and that they had never received 1MDB funds.
"The question is why did Bank Negara approve 1MDB transactions abroad without checking the authenticity of the (Aabar BVI) account?" Puad asked.
"Who was the Bank Negara governor at the time? Why did Low make Tawfiq, Zeti's husband, his business partner?
"This is why an RCI is needed to uncover this mystery," the Umno man added.
Previously in 2017, Puad had rubbished calls for an RCI into 1MDB as the government had taken measures to stabilise 1MDB's financial position among others. - Mkini
