We always send Covid-19 patients by bus, says Pahang health dept

The viral video shows police escorting the bus out of Cameron Highlands.

PETALING JAYA: It is normal practice to ferry Covid-19 patients by bus from Cameron Highlands to low-risk quarantine centres (PKRC), Pahang health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said today.

She added that the public should not be alarmed by a video clip that went viral recently showing police escorting a bus with such patients.

“The viral incident occurred on Nov 9, and it only involved nine Covid-19 positive patients being ferried to the PKRC in Maran, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), and the health ministry training institute in Kuantan,” she said in a statement today, adding that the Covid-19 situation in the state was under control.

The video clip, which received almost two million views, elicited many responses from social media users worried about the emergence of new clusters in the tourist resort.

Nor Azimi said the Cameron Highlands district health office had not received any report so far of Covid-19 positive cases among tourists and other visitors to the hill resort town.

“Contact tracing so far only involves family members of the patients rather than tourists.”

Only two sub-districts were declared as orange zones – Tanah Rata and Ulu Telom – while Ringlet was declared a yellow zone, she said.

There were 77 new Covid-19 cases reported in the state today, of which 70 were local transmissions, and the remaining seven being imported cases. - FMT
