Pakatan Harapan will “wait and see” if Perikatan Nasional (PN) rescinds its support for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration before deciding on its next move, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
"It is up to PN to decide if it will pull out from the government. It is not our call and has nothing to do with us.
"The moment PN pulls out, a new political scenario will emerge. When that happens, Ismail Sabri will lose the majority (support in the Dewan Rakyat). Then, Harapan will decide what to do next," he said.
"(But at this point), we are not going to give any commitment, we will just wait and see. We are holding our cards close to our chest," he told a press conference today.
Loke was asked if Harapan would keep Ismail Sabri in office to delay the 15th general election if PN withdrew its support for him.
The DAP leader also accused the Muhyiddin Yassin-led Bersatu of not being consistent on this matter.
"They are afraid of losing their positions (in the government)," he added.
PN reportedly threatened to withdraw from the government in protest over Ismail Sabri’s reluctance to fulfil the agreement to appoint a deputy prime minister from Bersatu.
However, Bersatu supreme council member Faiz Na'aman denied this and stressed the party would continue to back the prime minister.
Apart from Bersatu, PN comprises PAS, Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku and the Sabah Progressive Party.
Unfazed by the threat, Ismail Sabri said he is prepared to face any possibility, including holding an early general election. - Mkini
