Azmin fires up Selangor PN convention with attacks on PM, ministers

Tasked to lead Perikatan Nasional's quest to capture Selangor, Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali fired up the coalition's election campaign today by firing salvos at his former allies from Pakatan Harapan.

In his speech to over 2,000 Selangor PN members gathered for the state's election convention, he said Selangor and Malaysia now require strong leadership not provided by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

"At a time when the country is in crisis, we need leadership, not a celebrity," said Azmin, as a screen at Ideas Convention Centre, Shah Alam, showed a montage of Anwar singing the P Ramlee classic, "Oh Azizah".

"This is not the time to be singing 'Oh Azizah'...we must sing the song of the people," said the former Gombak MP.

"We want leaders who go down to the ground to help the people, not busy cycling in the office.

"We want leaders who are driving the economy, not go around riding cows," he said as the screen changed to show Digital and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, as well as Agricultural and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu.

In a message to non-Malay voters in Selangor, Azmin reminded them that they had once voted for Harapan in the hope of a clean government, but now their hopes were dashed after the cooperation with BN led by Umno.

Not to be spared, Azmin, a former Selangor menteri besar, today reminded his successor, Amirudin Shari, that he was responsible for the latter's rise.

Azmin said Amirudin was not PKR's choice as menteri besar, but he had personally vouched for the need to present a younger leader.

"The party did not (want to) submit his name to the palace.

"Amir, remember I was the one who pushed for your name. But because today you're colluding with dot dot dot...we have no choice but to reject Harapan, Umno and DAP in Selangor," he said.
