DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has taken a swipe at the PAS leadership following party president Abdul Hadi Awang’s clarification that the offer to join the coalition government was made after the 15th general election and there are no fresh offers.
In a statement this morning, Lim (above) said that this shows that other PAS leaders do not know what their president was talking about.
“I congratulate PAS president Hadi for not suffering from the intellectual inadequacy of mistaking my personal suggestion that PAS should join the Anwar government as an official DAP or government invitation.
“But it also showed that all the other PAS leaders, including the spiritual leader, the deputy president, and the information chief did not know what their president was talking about.
“If the other PAS leaders do not know what their president was talking about, it is expected that the other political parties in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, including Bersatu, have no idea what the PAS president was talking about either,” said Lim.
Who made the offer?
Yesterday, Hadi told the media that the offer for PAS to join the government was not a recent one but came after GE15.
Before Hadi’s clarification, the party’s information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin claimed that Lim had made the offer because the ruling coalition is in a shaky position as the Malays no longer support Umno.
He also lambasted Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, saying that the deputy prime minister did not do his homework when he denied such an offer was ever made to PAS.
However, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man that it was not Lim who met with the PAS leadership recently.
“It was not him (Lim). I don’t want to say who. I can just confirm that there were some individuals who came to meet with PAS leaders,” he said when asked to confirm if it was Lim who met the party recently with an offer to join the government.
Lim said he has not met with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for any discussion since he helmed the government last November.
“Hadi said yesterday that the offer to join the government was made after GE15 and that there had not been any offers to join the Anwar government since.
“Hadi was probably referring to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s proposal for a unity government between Pakatan Harapan and PN during the king’s audience with political leaders on Nov 22, 2022, which was rejected by PN – before Anwar was sworn in as the 10th prime minister on Nov 24, 2022.
“It was irresponsible and dishonest for Hadi to claim recently that ‘certain individuals’ had ‘repeatedly’ reached out to him to collaborate with the Anwar government when this happened some seven months ago during the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s audience on Nov 22, 2022,” said Lim.
“It was even more irresponsible and dishonest for other PAS leaders to echo Hadi’s statement as if they were recent occurrences,” he added.
Lim said this highlighted why Hadi is not a responsible, honest, and respected leader, as he not only made wild and preposterous allegations that he was unable to substantiate for months, but he could also spark a controversy that PAS was recently invited to join the Anwar government when it did not happen at all. - Mkini
