Mega 'ceramah' in Shah Alam as PN, BN-Harapan launch polls machinery

After a series of events held in the outskirts, political rivals from Pakatan Harapan-BN and Perikatan Nasional will take to the state capital of Shah Alam tomorrow to officially kick off their parties' election machinery.

In a notice, Selangor PN said some 5,000 delegates from across the state will gather from 2pm tomorrow at the Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam.

Selangor PN secretary Dr Afif Bahardin said top leaders, including PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, Gerakan president Dominic Lau, and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan will attend the state convention.

The leaders will also be launching Selangor PN's machinery at the event.

Later at the same venue, organisers estimate that up to 10,000 PN supporters will gather for a 'Jelajah Selangor Baharu Kita Bangkit' ceramah from 8.30pm onwards.

At some point, the PN's ceramah will be held simultaneously with Harapan's 'Jelajah Mega Madani Negeri Selangor' at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are expected to attend on behalf of central leaders and launch the parties' joint election machinery at 8.15pm.

At the state leadership level, incumbent Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari will be present together with Amanah Selangor chairperson Izham Hashim, Selangor DAP chairperson Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor Umno chairperson Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

Harapan, together with BN as its new ally, is on a quest to defend Selangor against PN, now also with new allies Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan.

The composition of the state assembly before the dissolution saw Harapan holding 40 seats (PKR-19, DAP-15, Amanah-six), BN (five), Bersatu (four), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) (two), while PAS, Pejuang, and Warisan have one each, along with one independent representative.

The Batang Kali seat, however, was declared vacant after the elected representative failed to attend the assembly sitting for over six months. - Mkini
