Anwar is expected to consult all branch leaders in the state after Hari Raya following a call by 15 of the 26 division chiefs in Sabah for the resignation of Sabah PKR chairman Sangkar Rasam.
Awang Husaini said Sangkar’s position was unaffected, as the state chairman is appointed by the party president, according to the Borneo Post.
However, if so many chiefs were opposed to him, then it would not be advisable for Sangkar to continue in his current role, said Awang Husaini.
He said the coming Sabah state assembly elections, the first since Anwar’s unity federal government took office in 2022, is viewed as a crucial test for his administration.
“The importance of the party and Sabah PKR’s preparation to face the state elections will certainly be the main consideration.
“Furthermore, PKR, as the party that leads Sabah Pakatan Harapan, will play a very important role in the political currents of the state,” he said.
The 15 divisional leaders who have reported signed statutory declarations against Sangkar are: Christina Liew (Api-Api), Mustapha Sakmud (Kota Belud), Peto Galim (Sepanggar), Sazalye Donol Abdullah (Kota Marudu), Razeef Rakimin (Tuaran), Raymond Ahuar (Pensiangan), Wendey Agong (Sipitang), Dikin Musah (Beaufort), Basran Omar (Beluran), Azmi Tambuyong (Kinabatangan), Roslee Malek (Papar), Awang Chuchu (Kimanis), Roslan Sapar (Kalabakan), and Aris Remigus (Batu Sapi). Amin Mem (Semporna) who was reported to be among them has since denied involvement. - FMT
