Padu: KJ to lodge report over identity theft

Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin will file a police report over identity theft after his identification card number was misused for registration with the Central Database Hub (Padu).

This comes after he hit a snag in an attempt to register with Padu yesterday.

Taking it to Instagram yesterday, Khairy expressed shock to receive a pop-up warning alerting him an account had already been created, though he had not registered with Padu before.

Later, in a separate post on the social media platform, he said the issue has since been resolved and Padu was able to reset his identification card login.

“Some guy registered using my IC number. His identity has been doxxed online, which I’m not sure is a good thing.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right. The right thing to do is make a police report for identity theft, which I will do. Not dox and leak that guy’s information online.

“That invites more suspicion against Padu. Anyway, now I’ve registered and submitted the e-KYC (electronic Know-Your-Customer),” the former Rembau MP said.

‘No data leak’

Meanwhile, Farhan Akmal, who is the press secretary to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, took to X to warn the public against using other people’s identification card numbers when registering with Padu.

“That’s impersonation or identity theft. The person behind Khairy’s fake registration has been identified.

“It’s easy to track. There is no data leak as it didn’t pass the e-KYC process.

“To the person, good luck,” Farhan said in a post.

Previously, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Rafizi had been asked to explain the Padu registration issue at the cabinet meeting this week.

However, Anwar did not elaborate on the specific issue to be discussed.

He merely said the need for clarification arose following concerns raised by Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg about the system.

Sarawak Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had also likened Padu registration to stripping citizens naked, as they are required to disclose all personal details, including bank accounts, real estate, and investments.
