Zahid takes a dig at KJ over 'biawak hidup' remark [NSTTV]

 

KUALA LANGAT: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has taken a veiled jab at Khairy Jamaluddin for criticising his leadership of the party.

While he did not mention names, Zahid appeared to reference the term "biawak hidup" used by the former Umno Youth chief in a recent Keluar Sekejap podcast.

In that podcast, Khairy remarked that the unity government had a "biawak hidup" (albatross around the neck) in the form of Umno under Zahid's leadership.

Zahid today lamented that the government faced many challenges in its efforts to improve the lives of people, including through the introduction of the Central Database Hub (Padu).

Everything new has its challenges, and those challenges include those 22 per cent who are anti-establishment," he said in a speech at a buka puasa event at Masjid Jamek As Solihin here.

"This group of anti-establishment also includes a former figure who alleged that someone is a 'biawak hidup'.

"I would like to say to that person, who is living luxuriously, (that person) is actually the 'biawak hidup'. So look at yourself before pointing fingers at others."

"Does this 'biawak hidup' have an impact on the people, especially in elections?," Zahid questioned.

Zahid said those who were anti-establishment will always blame others.

"Whether they are in the government or not, they will always say the leadership is always wrong," he said, adding such people were the real "biawak hidup".

"Therefore, we must strive to rally the masses to be aligned with the establishment," Zahid said.

At the event, Zahid who is also deputy prime minister and the rural and regional development minister, presented donations to orphans and tahfiz students.

Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Women, Family, and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. - NST
