PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin a.k.a. CheGuBard has come under fire from netizens for disputing how an accused in the court of law (OKT or orang kena tuduh) can be granted audience by a Malay ruler.
The Pembela Tanah Air (PETA) secretariat member further described as highly inappropriate for the protocol department of the National Palace to allow founder and executive chairman of KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd Datuk Seri Dr Chai Kee Kan to meet His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia on Wednesday (April 3).
“Now the Malays are too ashamed of the King’s actions. And this needs to be openly rebuked (tegur secara terbuka). This remark is not a matter of 3R (race, religion, royalty). This is about the dignity of the Malays and their King,” he penned in a recent Facebook post.
“If that’s the case, there is now a precedent of an accused in the court of law to meet the granted audience by the King. Is the same opportunity given to other accused in the court of law as well?”
For the record, Chai, 57, had on March 26 claimed trial to a charge under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others by allegedly putting the socks for sale.
Also charged under the same Code was Chai’s 53-year-old homemaker wife Loh Siew Mui in her capacity as company director. She also pleaded not guilty to the charge.
But Badrul Hisham found himself in the firing line after opposition-slant news Malay language news portal TV Pertiwi aired his view on the social media.
Some netizens wanted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) to give the national Bersatu information committee member “a tight slap” for being disrespectful by questioning His Majesty’s prerogative:
Some even hash-tagged the Agong and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to report CheGuBard’s disrespectful demeanour.
Other rational thinking netizens disagreed with CheGuBard that the Agong has acted inappropriately by granting an audience which lasted 15 minutes to the KK Super Mart owner. In fact, they reckoned that His Majesty might have his own reasons for doing so.
Moreover, as one netizen puts it, “I’m not backing the Chinese but he (Chai) went to there with great respect for the YDPA”.
Above all else, this entire episode could just be a political ploy by the opposition who is not in good terms with the National Palace.
But all said and done, this is not the first time that CheGuBard has a bone to pick with Sultan Ibrahim.
On March 6, Harian Metro reported that the police had recorded the conversation between CheGuBard and Zahid Mat Arip who was the former political secretary to twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in relation to a statement questioning the presentation of a car by Sultan Ibrahim to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim which was then uploaded on the social media. – Focus Malaysia
