Socso contribution for part-time journalists, stringers from July 1

 

Part-time media practitioners will receive Socso contribution for one year starting July 1, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the Communications Ministry through Bernama will fully cover the contribution.

Accordingly, Fahmi (above) asked all registered media organisations to update their data so it is easier for the ministry to channel funds.

“Based on data from the Information Department, 565 registered media practitioners are part-time or stringers, while Socso confirmed that 538 of them do not receive Socso contribution, but are eligible to be registered,” he said at the closing of the National Journalists Day (Hawana) 2024 celebration in Kuching today.

The highlight event of Hawana 2024, themed “Ethics at the Core of Journalism”, was officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Also present were Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and his deputies Ammar Douglas Uggah Embas and Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) Abdullah Saidol, as well as approximately 1,000 guests consisting of local and international media practitioners.
