Disobedience will nullify member status, Muhyiddin warns Bersatu reps

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has warned the party's elected representatives that refusal to follow any order by the supreme council will result in an automatic termination of their membership status.

This is according to the recently amended Article 10.4 of the party's constitution, said Muhyiddin in a statement today.

"It is hereby reminded that according to Article 10.4 of the party's constitution, a refusal by any Bersatu elected representatives to obey any instructions from the supreme council, their membership status is viewed to have been terminated with immediate effect," he said.

In doing so, it will also trigger the anti-hopping law per Article 49A of the Federal Constitution and their seats will be vacated.

Muhyiddin issued the warning a day after a deadline was set for all Bersatu elected representatives to return a signed supreme council's order as a pledge of their loyalty.

"A total of 25 MPs and 58 state assemblypersons have signed the letter (order) and returned it to Bersatu's secretary-general within 14 days.

"The supreme council special order was made in line with an amendment to Bersatu's constitution that has been approved by the Registrar of Societies, and in accordance with Article 49A of the Federal Constitution on anti-hopping," the former prime minister stated.

Unsatisfactory replies from rogue lawmakers

Yesterday, it was reported that a special committee was formed to review the returned orders, including from seven Bersatu lawmakers who threw their support to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

It was also reported that the replies from the seven were deemed unsatisfactory.

The six Bersatu MPs who pledged support for Anwar were Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

Selat Klang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari also announced his support for the premier. - Mkini
