MACC nabs enforcement officer over bribe to cover up rape case

 

The MACC said the suspect is to be charged in court today.

PETALING JAYA: 

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested an enforcement officer on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM12,000 to cover up a rape case.

According to a source, the male suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at about 10am yesterday when he was summoned to provide statements at the MACC’s office in Penang.

The suspect is believed to have committed the offence in 2019 and received the bribe from an individual to close a rape case,

 the source said.

When contacted, Penang MACC director Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest and said the suspect will be charged in court in Perlis today.

He said the case was investigated under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both upon conviction. - FMT
