MACC probe may delay KLFA elections

KLFA acting president Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said nomination was supposed to be opened today but could not be done due to the ongoing MACC investigation.

KUALA LUMPUR
Whether the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) congress will be held as scheduled on Sept 7 is uncertain following an investigation into the association by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

KLFA acting president Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said the future of the congress – during which elections for office bearers are held – would depend on the outcome of the MACC investigation, Berita Harian reported.

“We have submitted a report to MACC, and within 14 days, it will complete its investigation. If there is a likelihood of misconduct, the congress will be postponed.

If there is no misconduct, the congress will automatically proceed on Sept 7, as scheduled by the KLFA committee members,
he said at a press conference after the KLFA committee meeting earlier today.

Nomination was supposed to be opened today by an independent body but could not be done due to the ongoing MACC investigation.

Abdullah also announced that several clubs which had been suspended for being inactive would be allowed to participate in the congress.

The sports commissioner’s office had revoked the status of several KLFA clubs, raising the question of whether they are eligible to participate in the election. But the committee decided to allow them to participate,
he said, confirming that a total of 28 clubs would take part.

I predict there will be competition because of the high interest. Many people are interested in KLFA,
 he said. - FMT
