Unimaginable Malaysians go ballistic on Japanese cyclist Shinji Nakano by trolling his Instagram in BM

PROBABLY Malaysia wouldn’t have ended at the pathetic 80th spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics medal ranking if two ‘sports’ had been included – (1) Rempit-ing alluding to stunt biking (in reality, hooliganism-on-two wheels); and (2) cyberbullying.

This is judging by how enraged sports fans are flooding Japanese cyclist Shinji Nakano’s Instagram account with hate comments.

Patriotism surely has a limit even as the 25-year-old Japanese track cyclist is deemed to have denied Malaysia’s ‘last man standing’ Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom a podium finish at the men’s keirin final by felling the latter last night (Aug 11) at the Saint-Quentinen-Yvelines Velodrome on Sunday (Aug 11).

Even Shah Firdaus’ brother Ridwan Sahrom who is also a track cyclist has personally appealed to Malaysians to refrain from attacking the Japanese cyclist “as anything can happen in keirin events, hence blame cannot be carelessly attributed.” However, Malaysians continued to hurl insults at Nakano by name-shaming him.

Not only can their action be deemed as outwardly racist for even Nakano’s innocent mother was not spared but the haters are to be blamed if the international community were to perceive Bahasa Malaysia (BM) which was mostly used to convey hate speech against Nakano as a low-class language.

“Shame on you, Malaysians. Some are even proud to flaunt the cyberbullying ranking. So are you so proud with the ranking?” lambasted social media influencer kimi 🇲🇾 (@nctbaemon) on the X platform.

“How are you proud when we are the nation that loves cyberbullying people? You’re free to express your disappointment by criticising him (constructively) for his action but not cyberbullying by dragging his mother. Neither can you be racist.”

Quite a number of commenters agreed with Kimi that “when it comes to throwing insults, we (Malaysians) are some of the best in the world”.

Aside from Kimi, another poster Bitcoin Malaya (@bitcoinmalaya) sarcastically “congratulated” the ‘unsporting’ sports fans for “having embarrassed Malaysia in the international stage”.

Obviously, quite a number of commenters agreed with him given that Malaysians tend to criticise their neighbour Indonesians for sporting such behaviour previously only for them to behave in a similar manner now.
