Video of family picnicking inside moving vehicle raises safety concerns

A person’s dining experience can definitely be enhanced by the ambience of a dining place. But if the dining experience involves a moving vehicle at high speed and the laws of physics, more likely the experience would be a bloody one when said vehicle stops abruptly.

In a post on X that has since gone viral, netizen Kamarul Ariffin pointed out the danger of a family having their “picnic” in a moving vehicle.

According to the netizen, there were many cases of passengers breaking their faces, being thrown out of their vehicles or having their bones broken due to such a behaviour.

As excuses such as “I have been fine doing it all these while” holds no water here, he further advised the family not to indulge in such behaviour when the vehicle is moving.

By watching the video, one can only wonder how practical such a set-up is, considering the plate of nasi lemak appears not to be attached to the mattress.

A simple bump on the road should send the rice flying everywhere, besides bestowing upon the vehicle the aromatic smell of sambal.

That is but the least of one’s concern since an accident would send the children and mother flying towards the windscreen since they are not tucked in with their seatbelts.

Unsurprisingly, the comment section was filled with netizens flaming them for their irresponsible conduct. The children, especially, are innocent parties in this waiting-to-happen fiasco.

In a sharp yet aptly worded comment, Deruxtecan contended that foolishness should be committed in silence, not broadcasted to everyone.

Another netizen made a pertinent remark that such a set-up was unnecessary since the meal time could have been done when the car has stopped. Moreover, the cleanliness of the car is also maintained.

One netizen pointed out that this wasn’t the first time the driver had done this as he had previously watched a video which showed his children lying down.

With such blatant disregard for their safety, he probably didn’t love his family. But here comes the important question. Could his conduct be reported to the police?

When it comes to dining in a moving vehicle, we believe it is completely fine to do so within an airplane.

But with a picnic, ideally this should be conducted under a tree or a wide-open field filled with flowers and the occasional prancing puppies.

A picnic in a customised moving vehicle should definitely require permit from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) which will likely be rejected anyway. – Focus Malaysia
