Cops record statements from 5 MRSM students over bullying incident

PETALING JAYA: 

Police have recorded the statements from five Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) students in Nibong Tebal, Penang, in connection with a bullying incident that went viral on social media.

Seberang Perai Selatan deputy police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar confirmed that the 15-year-old students were questioned as part of an ongoing investigation.

“According to our investigation, seven Form 3 students were involved in the incident, including the victim and the person who recorded the video,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

“Five students have provided their statements so far, and the remaining two will be questioned soon. We aim to complete the investigation and refer the case file (to the deputy public prosecutor’s office) within two to three days,” he added.

Yesterday, Norazmi was quoted as saying that the bullying incident took place mid-2024, with the students claiming it was intended as a joke.

He also said investigations were being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today said the MRSM disciplinary committee had recommended the expulsion of those who carried out the bullying. - FMT
