FB user probed for claiming cops ignore Chinese bikers, target Malays

A Facebook user operating under the name “Muhamad Harun” is under investigation for allegedly defaming the police with claims of racial bias in law enforcement.

Pahang’s Bera district police chief Zulkiflee Nazir confirmed that the probe is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which governs online offences.

The investigation follows a post made on March 29 in the Bera Unite Facebook group, where “Muhamad Harun” accused the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) of selective enforcement.

According to the post, officers ignored two Chinese motorcyclists who were not wearing helmets but stopped two Malay riders, allegedly forcing them to push their motorcycles to the police station.

"The post questioned whether the law was being enforced only on the Malay community and claimed such incidents were common in Triang," Zulkiflee told Sinar Harian.

Authorities view the post as an attempt to discredit the Bera district police.

"The public is urged to provide any information on the account holder, ‘Muhamad Harun.’

“Anyone with relevant details can contact the investigating officer, Muhamad Zulhilmi Ishak, at 014-2250306 or report to the nearest police station," Zulkiflee added.

On March 30, police officially called on “Muhamad Harun” to present himself at the Bera district police headquarters or any nearby station to assist in the investigation. - Mkini
