No cabinet reshuffle while Rafizi, Nik Nazmi on leave - Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says there have been no discussions for cabinet reshuffles as of yet, and that this would not be happening soon.

This is after Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad both tendered their resignations to Anwar yesterday.

“Not yet. Not yet. They are still on break. We cannot replace them while they are on break,” Anwar was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

Rafizi - who is the economic minister - is on leave until June 16, with his resignation supposed to be effective June 17.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi - who is the natural resources and environmental sustainability minister - is on leave until July 3, with his last day in office being July 4.

The Prime Minister's Office yesterday said that Anwar has approved their leave applications, but was mum on whether their resignations were accepted.

Their decision to resign followed their defeat in last week’s PKR polls, with Rafizi losing the deputy presidency and Nik Nazmi being bumped off the vice-presidents quartet.

This is despite Anwar saying before the polls that he would not reshuffle the cabinet based on who won or lost.

Rafizi, however, argued it was the principled thing to do.

Besides Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, Anwar will also have to eventually replace Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz as the investment, trade, and industry minister after the latter’s final term as senator expires in December. - Mkini
