
KUALA LUMPUR: All 22 people, including 12 policemen, who were trapped across a river in Kampung Orang Asli Pertak, Kuala Kubu Baru, here following a sudden water surge have been rescued.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said all the victims were brought to safety at 7.50pm.
He said the department earlier received a distress call at 6.42pm before dispatching a team consisting of a fire rescue tender and a Toyota Hilux from the Kuala Kubu Baru Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, about 20km away.
A rescue effort was then conducted to save the stranded victims at 7.07pm.
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning at 5.50pm.
The forecast, which remains in effect until 9pm, included heavy rain and strong winds in several states across the country, including the Hulu Selangor area. - NST
